Loan Defaults Driving Up Digital Credit Costs – MobileMoney Fintech CEO

The Chief Executive Officer of MobileMoney Fintech LTD has warned that rising loan defaults are making digital credit more expensive for users, as lenders adjust to increasing risks within the sector.

According to the company’s leadership, a growing number of borrowers are failing to repay short-term digital loans, forcing operators to raise charges in order to remain financially sustainable. The development is said to be affecting the overall cost of credit across the digital finance space.

The CEO noted that while digital lending has expanded access to quick and convenient financing, particularly for individuals and small businesses, the increasing rate of defaults is placing pressure on service providers.

Digital lenders typically rely on high repayment rates to maintain lower pricing models. However, when defaults increase, companies are often left with limited options, including tightening lending conditions or increasing fees to offset losses.

Industry observers say the situation highlights ongoing challenges within the fintech ecosystem, where rapid growth in mobile-based financial services has not always been matched by strong credit discipline among borrowers.

The issue has also raised concerns about financial literacy and responsible borrowing practices, with calls for greater awareness among users of digital credit platforms.

MobileMoney Fintech has indicated that efforts are underway to improve risk management systems and enhance credit assessments, in order to reduce default rates and stabilize pricing for customers.

Analysts say the long-term sustainability of digital lending in Ghana will depend on a balance between accessibility and responsible usage, as well as stronger regulatory and monitoring frameworks within the sector.
