Ghana Assures Safe Return for Citizens Amid South Africa Xenophobic Attacks

Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister has assured citizens in South Africa of safe evacuation and support to rebuild their lives following recent xenophobic attacks.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has assured Ghanaians living in South Africa that government is taking steps to ensure their safe return following recent xenophobic attacks.

The minister said authorities are committed to protecting the lives and welfare of citizens affected by the situation, adding that measures are already in place to facilitate their evacuation back to Ghana.

He emphasised that the government’s response will go beyond simply bringing affected individuals home, noting that plans are being made to support their reintegration once they arrive.

According to him, assistance will be provided to help returnees rebuild their lives, acknowledging the disruption and losses many may have suffered as a result of the attacks.

The assurance comes amid growing concern over the safety of foreign nationals in parts of South Africa, where periodic outbreaks of xenophobic violence have affected several communities, including Ghanaians.

Government officials say they are closely monitoring developments while working with relevant stakeholders to guarantee the safety and dignity of citizens abroad.

The move underscores Ghana’s commitment to safeguarding its nationals worldwide while ensuring that those affected by crises receive both immediate and long-term support.
